CNC Machining

Computer numerical control machining, or CNC machining, is used to transform metal and other materials into custom designed parts or components. The two primary types of CNC machining are CNC milling and CNC turning. Both methods use computer software to input the desired specifications of the final product and then control the cutting tools.

CNC machines cut and shape material using grinders, lathes, and turning mills that are connected to and regulated by a computer program.

• CNC milling works by progressively removing material from the workpiece with a multi-point cutting tool. The object being cut remains stationary, while the cutting tool moves freely around three axes.
• CNC turning is a manufacturing process in which bars of metal or other material are held and rotated while a cutting tool is fed to the piece to remove material and produce the desired shape and specifications.
